Sadistic War on Wild Horses Sinks to New Moral and Ethical Lows
BLM to Conduct Frankenstein experiments on live, female wild horses.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is on a path to sterilize wild horses on U.S. rangeland to slow the growth of herds — a new approach condemned by mustang advocates across the West.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management also continues to resist calls from ranchers and western Republicans to euthanize or sell for slaughter the animals overflowing holding pens so as to clear the way for more roundups.
Bureau of Land Management Deputy Director Steve Ellis delivered those messages at an emotional congressional hearing this week. He offered a glimpse of the challenges facing the agency that has been struggling for decades with what it describes as a $1 billion problem.
Highlights of the hearing included Nevada’s state veterinarian calling for the round-up and surgical sterilization of virtually every mustang in overpopulated herds, a protester who briefly interrupted with shouts denouncing “welfare ranchers” turning public lands into “feedlots,” and an Arkansas congressman whose puppy is about to get neutered.
Rep. Tom McClintock, chairman of the House Natural Resources subcommittee on public lands, took aim at those who object to euthanizing mustangs “and yet seem perfectly willing to watch them succumb to excruciating death by starvation, dehydration and disease.”
“That is the future we condemn these animals to if we don’t intervene now,” the California Republican said.
Rep. Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyoming, emphasized the 1971 law protecting mustangs allows for their destruction if they go unadopted. But since 2012, Congress has required horse purchasers to sign documents promising not to resell them for slaughter, and the Bureau of Land Management opposes lifting those restrictions.
Ellis said the estimated 67,000 wild horses and burros on federal land in 10 states is 2.5 times more than the range can support. However, there’s no more room in government corals and leased pastures, where 47,000 horses cost taxpayers about $50,000 per head over the course of their lifetime.
“Quite frankly, we can’t afford to feed any more unadopted horses,” Ellis said. “I understand your frustration. We are frustrated too.”
Ellis said the agency’s “roadmap to the future” includes use of temporary contraceptive vaccines as well as sterilization.
“We feel that before we can implement a spay-neuter program on the range, we’ve got to do the research to make sure we can do it efficiently and safely,” he said. “It is going to take a little time to do that.”
Rep. Rod Bishop, R-Utah, chairman of the Natural Resources Committee, said it’s time to have “that real tough conversation about something more permanent.”
Other Republicans turned on the lone horse advocate called to testify — Ginger Kathrens, founder of The Cloud Foundation based in Colorado Springs, Colorado and member of the Bureau of Land Management’s wild horse advisory committee.
But Kathrens said most Americans want to see mustangs “roam freely on their native home ranges as intended.”
“Castration, sterilization and long-term confinement of horses in holding facilities … is unnecessary, cruel, unhealthy and fiscally irresponsible,” she said.
Rep. Bruce Westerman, R-Arkansas, noted, however, that “thousands of domesticated animals are spayed and neutered every day.”
“I’ve got a new puppy and he’s got his day coming soon,” he said.
That prompted an outburst from Edita Birnkrant, campaigns director for Friends of Animals.
“They are wild animals. They are not cats and dogs,” she shouted as McClintock banged the gavel and called for Capitol Police. “The solution is getting welfare ranchers off of our public lands, which have been turned into feedlots.”
J.J. Goicoechea, the Nevada Department of Agriculture’s veterinarian and longtime rancher, urged the gathering of “as close to 100 percent of horses as we can” in overpopulated herds for surgical sterilization before returning some to the range.
“Those of us who truly make a living caring for animals … have a moral obligation to manage populations in balance with natural resources,” he said.

I love the woman from friends of animals. What was her fate? I’m glad that someone was there to represent the rest of us. I loved her outburst. I loved her strength. We have no room for niceness any more. No trying to turn the other cheek when we are labeled lunatics. You read what happened to the Jews when Hitler took power. They didn’t fight back avid they died. I’m 61 and I’m furious over this bullshit. I’ve told you all that being nice is not going tho get you anywhere. Look what had happened!!!!!! Just look!!!

In one of the articles I read where 35 advocacy groups were for PZP, it stated that those groups represent some 350,000 people.
The sad reality is there was not 350,000 standing at this women’s side supporting her.

In 1992, independent auditors Ryan and Fetterolf were witnesses for Uinta County against Union Pacific Resourcesxviii, which was suing the county and the state, claiming the county had no right to hire minerals production auditors for contingent fees, and disputing the taxes on the company’s oil and gas production in the county. Ryan told WyoFile that when he and Fetterolf showed up to give their depositions in the case, he was shocked to find that state Senator Cynthia Lummis, a Laramie County Republican, was the company’s lawyer.
“Cynthia, are you here to represent your constituents or Union Pacific?” Ryan says he asked.
“I represented Union Pacific Resources Co. in a declaratory judgment action that went to the Wyoming Supreme Court,” Lummis told WyoFile, adding that the court made no decision on the merits of the case, but sent it back to the Board of Equalization.
Cynthia Lummis, who is now Wyoming’s sole U.S. Representative in Congress, has been a politician for more than 30 years, and a lawyer for nearly a quarter of a century. When she was working for Union Pacific Resources in the 1990s, she was a partner in the Cheyenne firm of Wiederspahn, Lummis & Liepas PC. Her husband and law partner, real estate developer Alvin Wiederspahn, is a former state representative and senator on the Democratic side of the aisle. In the ’90s, the firm’s clients included Amoco Production Company and Union Pacific Resources. Wiederspahn was also a leader of the Wyoming Taxpayers’ Association, a group with a populist-sounding name that is an energy industry lobby.
During the summer, Burton—who as a Republican state representative from Natrona County had served on the House Revenue Committee with Rep. Cynthia Lummis—consulted Lummis and former state Sen. Dan Sullivan, who were co-chairmen of the legislature’s Joint Interim Revenue Committee that had reported on the 1990 law. Sullivan, the Republican brother of former Democratic Gov. Michael Sullivan, was by 1996 working for Chevron. He assured Burton that Chevron was correct, the production taxes and royalties should be excluded.xxv Burton met with
Governor Jim Geringer three times on the subject, and he finally told her, she said, “Do what you think is right.”
What she thought was right (Burton consulted the state attorney general to see if she was about to break the law; he said no) was to accept Chevron’s view of the matter, overrule her auditors and herself, and exclude production taxes and royalties from the direct cost formula.
She issued a new memo in October 1996 to “supercede” and “cancel” her previous memo. The Equalization Board later found this October memo to be “contrary to law.”

Let’s face it … the only persons that have worked for 40 plus years for the extinction of wild horses and burros are those with a financial interest. This has been and continues to be unacceptable, illegal and the American citizens including me are disgusted at the “sell-out” of our lands and resources by the agency that is responsible to protect them … BLM.

Idiots. There are millions of cats and millions of dogs in the US. There are only tens of thousands of wild horses! They are not supposed to be ‘adopted’, but to live on the range according to the law because the American people want them! I shudder at the thought of permanent sterilization; it is immoral and unethical to do that to any living thing, taking away their future. We wouldn’t dream of doing that to ourselves – although we have in our illustrious human history. Disgusting.

I don’t know – Ken Salazar certainly did enough damage as President Obama’s Interior Secretary, and I don’t think anyone would allow more. Especially with his connection to Tom Davis and trucking wild horses off to slaughter.

I wasn’t being serious about Donald Trump picking Rep. Steve King as his running mate. As of now, I have not heard anything about that happening and doubt that it would.
joey, like Frank said, any information regarding the death of Dotty is vital and I believe there’s a monetary reward for the person who knows who killed her.
As far as what Trump would do for our wild horses and burros, he hasn’t made any reference to them. His position on animal welfare issues in general are unclear. However, a state socialist by the name of Roland Vincent believes that Trump’s policies could actually benefit animals indirectly. One of the reasons has to do with trade agreements such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). He states, “Trade agreements make is easier and more profitable to kill animals. They encourage and reward live export. They make it cheaper to produce corpses. They override US cruelty standards, such as they are. They make it impossible for the US to ban the import of even the most horribly exploited and slaughtered creatures.” Donald has been an outspoken critic of TPP and, as such, would most likely fight against trade deals that reward animal cruelty. At first, I was hesitant to read Roland’s blog post as part of his blog’s tagline reads: “The most radical Animal Rights blog on Earth!” I support animal welfare no doubt about it, but the word “radical” makes me cringe. But, being that I was trying to find out as much as I could about the candidates’ stances on animal-related issues, I read his posts anyway and they’re pretty interesting:

Lummis is listed as a 31.3 percent owner of Lummis Livestock, which received a total of $47,093 in farm subsidies in between 1996 and 2002. Lummis listed her ownership of Lummis Livestock in her 2009 financial disclosure form.
