America’s Wild Horses and Burros urgently need your help today to save them from Sterilization and Eradication

The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations just announced that a Joint House and Senate Conference Committee meeting will take place tomorrow, September 13th, to begin discussions on finalizing Fiscal Year 2019 Appropriations legislation (H.R. 6157) – including funding for the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM’s) Wild Horse and Burro Program.
The Appropriations Committees must meet in Conference so that the bills in each match. While the Senate voted to protect our wild horses and burros, the House of Representatives included the dangerous Stewart Amendment. The two committees will conference tomorow September 13th and decide whether or not to include language in the Stewart Amendment which will authorize the BLM to manage wild horses and burros in same sex and non-reproducing herds, and to use dangerous and cruel sterilization methods.
If passed with this language, it could soon mean the end of wild horses roaming free on our public lands, and also the end of over 50 years of protection.

Please ask Rep./ Senator [Name] to contact the Appropriations conference committee to urge them to reject the Stewart Amendment calling for the mass sterilization of wild horses and burros. This would undermine 50 years of protection and is counter to the wishes of the 80 percent of Americans who want our wild horses protected and humanely managed. Thank you.”

Did it … and included some of the fraudulent annual herd increases that BLM spews to Congress. We cannot allow our government decisions and actions to be based on lies, including the lies continually regurgitate by BLM.
WHY is this so important? Because these are the statistics that BLM gives to Congress when requesting funding for wild horse and burro capture and management plans, including the recent report to Congress “Management Options for a Sustainable Wild Horse and Burro Program” which recommends killing (misidentified as “euthanasia”) 10,000 wild horses and burros, massive roundups of 50,000 wild horses and burros currently living legally on our public lands, then sterilizing 80% of the wild horses and burros that remain and removing limitations on sale of these wild horses and burros, which exposes them to a very high risk of sale to slaughter.

Who is on the joint committee? If I have it right, this committee is not the entire Congress, which will later review and pass the final language. It is important they ALL know to pay attention, but those on the joint committee are key now, but not from every state. Is there a list of these members somewhere publicly available?

Thanks, saw that list of four and contacted my state’s elected congresspeople, but wonder and asked who is on the larger complete joint committee, partly to know how many or few will make these decisions, and partly to send info on to people in other states who may have congressional representatives on this joint committee.

Just received the Warm Springs BLM “decision” = surprise surprise – they feel there will be NO impact if they round up these horses (because of no water availability AND the roads not being good enough to deliver water) & then spaying the mares! Apparently, the only problem would be if there was an “impact” to humans?
I’m sure pretty much everyone here also got a reply.

The legal authority of the acting heads for major Interior Department agencies remains murky, according to documents posted today by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER). Consequently, the validity of actions taken by the current and former acting directors for the National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Fish & Wildlife Service is subject to court challenge, potentially nullifying much of the Trump administration’s resource agenda.
After nearly two years in office, Trump’s Interior Department has nearly as many vacant presidentially-appointed and Senate confirmed positions as ones filled (eight versus nine). Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke has issued a series of six “Temporary Redelegation of Authority” orders purporting to paper over this legal gap.
“We do not know if President Trump wants to leave these top posts empty or whether he cannot find people willing to serve in his administration,” Jenkins added. “These are presidential appointments and, as such, are beyond Secretary Zinke’s pay grade to fill.”
