A September 24th flyover survey of the California-Nevada Twin Peaks Herd Management Area by respected wildlife ecologist Craig Downer reveals that only about 265 wild horses remain in this 798,000-acre range in the wake of the recent BLM roundup, which captured 1638 horses. Fourteen of those horses died in BLM custody or as a direct result of physical injuries or trauma sustained during their capture.
New York City, NY (October 7, 2010)— A case filed today against Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar in federal court aims to stop the elimination of wild horses from Colorado’s North Piceance herd area. Plaintiffs Habitat for Horses (HfH), the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), The Cloud Foundation (TCF), Toni Moore and Dr. Don Moore challenge the BLM’s ongoing illegal treatment of wild horses residing on public lands and it’s intention to completely remove all wild horses from this area beginning October 11, 2010.

Despite severe restrictions on the public’s ability to observe all aspects of the roundups, the death of the wild stallion was captured on video by wild horse advocates at the Silver King Herd Management Area in southeastern Nevada.
On September 7th, 2009 my wife, Terry, pressed he lips against my right ear and whispered “We have to do something” as her tears ran down the right side of my face and “Cloud the Stallion of the Rockies” reluctantly lead his family into to the trap that the BLM had waiting for him.
Here we go again. It’s only three days into the controversial Silver King roundup, south of Ely, Nevada, and the BLM has already killed four perfectly healthy wild horses out of the 177 they’ve taken into custody.

Leslie says that is somewhere around 40 years give or take a few minutes. Leslie is scary. Big bad men are afraid of Leslie. Leslie was polite to big bad men but they were very afraid. Big bad men tried to run over Leslie with a big bad truck. Big bad men tried to chop her up with a helicopter. Big bad men were rude and mean to Leslie. Big bad men have body parts that are not too big. The brain is one of these body parts. Leslie is much smarter than big bad men.

LAS VEGAS — The Bureau of Land Management has suffered two defeats in federal court in recent weeks. One judge ordered BLM to make public the names of ranchers who lease public land for grazing, something BLM didn’t want to do. A second judge struck down a BLM plan to severely limit public input into how public lands are managed.
If Wyoming’s Representative Sue Wallis gets her way, the answer to the question “What’s for dinner?” will be:

In a membership communication distributed on January 30, the United Organizations of the Horse (a Wyoming based lobbying group whose mission is to open a horse slaughter facility in Wyoming – referred to as the UOH) applauded the financial support of various organizations and spoke of the attendance of Rep. Sue Wallis and David Duquette at the Simon Bucking Stock Sale in Oklahoma City, OK. Rep. Wallis is an elected state legislator from Wyoming, as well as Executive Director of the UOH, and Mr. Duquette is the President of the nonprofit 501 (c)(3) affiliate of the UOH, the United Horseman’s Front.
