  1. Sometimes I am very thankful I can’t fo videos on my dial-up, prehistoric computer….this is one of those times.

Thank you for showing the rest of the world the human generated hell these magnificent animals are going through.

  4. I detest the DOI’s Ken Salazar and his band of killers within the BLM; including all the welfare ranchers and their cattle. IMO and that of thousands of Americans, Salazar and Abbey are nothing but arrogant, self-serving, money-hungry, greedy SOB’s. Salazar believes his agencies are ‘above the law’ and thumbs his nose at each and every one of us. Those fools that work for the BLM do as Salazar and Abbey order and, unfortunately, for our WILD ONES…seem to enjoy inflicting injury and death upon these beautiful horses and burros. They are truly disturbed individuals. We are being told to write letters, send emails/faxes, sign petitions and make phone calls…’but be respectful’… I say enough is enough and being ‘nice’ is getting us nowhere.

The fact that Salazar and Abbey MUST GO is all too true. However, I put the blame for these roundups directly in Obama’s lap. He is the only person with the ability to STOP THIS IMMEDIATELY, yet he ignores our ‘nice’ pleas and acts as if ‘We the people’ do not exist. He does not listen nor respond to us or address this issue at all; our WILD ONES are of no concern to Obama; nor are our demands for a moratorium on the roundups or our call for Salazar’s resignation and/or termination!

Has ANYONE heard Obama utter a word about our concerns for the WILD ONES? I have never received a response to a letter, fax, email or phone call from Obama even though I make it perfectly clear that ‘I expect a reply/response’ from him. After all these months I have yet to receive anything from The White House or Obama regarding the issue of our WILD ONES. This is quite a slap in the face from Obama; it’s infuriating, pathetic, sad, but most of all UNAMERICAN.

    • “Ditto” Sharon!! I agree with everything you said, enough IS enough! The time for being nice, polite, “respectful”(Ha,Ha,Ha), & doing things by the book, are OVER!! IF, we really want CHANGE, &, we really want to stop this insane madness & cruelty, &, really want to SAVE OUR wild horses, then “we the people”, need to jump into action & fight back! This has become a personal issue to all wild horse advocates, at the horse’s expense, much to the delight of the horse-haters, including those “in charge” at the White House!! We need a national (international welcome too!), REVOLT, a “wild horse tea-party”, something more than just talk, cause that’s not saving the horses!!

  5. I’m not sure but I think I saw a pretty young foal in that corral. I’m thinking that one should still be with mom. I don’t have any idea why these people insist on weaning in their timeframe. Mom should the one to tell the foal when its time to not nurse anymore.

How do you tell the age of a foal when the mares are giving birth year round? Because foaling season is between certain dates? If a foal is with mom–it should stay that way. The BLM wasn’t there when each mare had her foal so HOW DO THEY REALLY KNOW?????

    Like

    • I beleive that it is reported somehwere here by one of our advocates that they were reunited after processing the moms (which they did in one day) and that all but two babies found their moms (or a nursing mom). No report on the other two at that time.

Anyone recall where that report was? Maureen Harmony I think.

But this stress is just unconcionable. We already had a report from a scientist in the last month or so of lasting genetic disorder from stresses at such young ages – and that was just about the “run” – then add this on top – it’s like BLM wants these babies to grow up genetically deficient – I bet if they return these babies to the range then in 2 or 3 or 5 years they will say “see they are deficient in some way – round up!” – but they will not say “because we made it so.”

Oh, these BLM, these foxes (an insult to foxes) in charge of the hen house, these “dumb” like a fox bad guys.

Chaching$, chaching$, chaching$! That is the sound in their heads that drums out the babies cries!

  6. The really pathetic part of this is that the BLM is sooo proud of the job they are doing..The mare who sems to have a stifle injury is the right color for the 2 I saw wedged in the narrowing of the chute at the gather site…who ever goes to lichfield should keep an eye on these specific horses and try to follow their progress..I would not rely on the word of the BLM as to their recovery..Ethics does not seem to be written anywhere in their handbook

  7. Is there no one that can stop this atrocity? These round ups are getting more and more vicious and inhumane, yet no one can seem to stop it. Why is that? Why are the Cattoors and BLM hacks allowed to treat our horses this way?

    Like

    • This is one of the most heart-wrenching videos to date. DISGUSTING!!!

Why is this brutality allowed to continue?

Got to get those “inconvenient” mustangs (sentient beings with whom we share this planet) off the land so it can be “free” (or virtually free) for cattle, sheep and fast-tracked big energy.

Got to speed up the kidnappings so the Cattoors can support themselves in the style to which they have become accustomed and guaranteed thanks to no-bid contracts.

Got to press on because the BLM WH&BP must consolidate its power, employees have to justify their positions and salaries, and, self-admittedly, the BLM “has no other way of managing” the wild ones.

And all this on the backs of American taxpayers!

DOI/BLM – at least be HONEST about the Wild Horse & Burro Program agenda. You may think it’s easier to apologize than to ask permission, but any apologies will be tainted by the blood of the wild ones.

Do you want your personal biographies and the agency’s historic legacy to include an asterisk – “* Actions by these persons during this administration hastened the decline and lead to the ultimate disappearance of America’s last federally-protected wild horses and burros.”?

You hold the power of life and death over these magnificent creations of a loving GOD. Do you ever pray for guidance that you are doing the right thing? Or are you humanists – believing man’s wants and “needs” trump the divine?

Remember, IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY!!! You need only reach out a hand and engage in sincere dialogue followed by meaningful actions. We’re here waiting. Where are YOU???

  9. As I understand it, at least – and very little good in it, these mares (and stallions too I guess) are processed within 24 hours of gathering so they are branded almost immediatly – so identifying any injured horses will be easier, and it will be harder for horses to go “missing” .

This is what I gather from Maureen’s report (maybe others too – reports at thist time are sketchy – but thank God we at least have them), and please correct me if I am wrong:

Previous – they may have lagged at the gather site 24 to 48 hours, then lag again sometimes many days in holding before processing.

This roundup – the mares and babies are separated at the gather site before being loaded direclty into trucks, then they are trucked immedialty to processing where they are branded and within 24 hours of gather, reunited with their babies, then sent to holding, or where?

Questions – are the babies better off being trucked separate – less injuries? Is it less stressful over all to do all this in 24 hours than strung out over days? Is it better for us to be able to identify horses by brand this early in the scheme and less likely for horses to go “missing” – does this make BLM more accountable?

    • good questions..ask yourself how much stress is it to run a marathon across the rocks for miles in the heat, get no water, have you children immediately removed seperated from everyone you know..from a quiet desert environment to the clanging and banging and shouting and waving of beings you have never seen up close(aliens)and then go through the processing which as we all saw from calico is enough stress..Yes it sure makes it easier on the people but most certainly not on the horses..more will die because of doing it this way..how many died from metabolic stress at calico? Cattle are NEVER treated this roughly..again I say-where is the humane society..MIA..my suggestion and what I am doing is to follow these trailers to holding and photograph every horse unloaded.

    • The branding is another process they are hurrying to get done so these horses show they were excess. Except now some of the horses ostensibly to be released later will also have brands. Wild free roaming mustangs should not have brands. This manipulation of the horses deemed ‘excess’ allows BLM to move them for sale and adoption when ever because they get branded quickly and processed. This is using protocols to create a false reason to then officially have horses removed and kept off range. One non science decision leads to another non science decision. The horses get branded and are now made non wild. Except I do not buy this. Ratcheting up the process is done to create branded excess horses as quickly as possible so they cannot go home? I say they can go home. This is a fraud put upon the horses and the people who wish this roundup and removal activity to end. This is a fraudulent removal to get to Zero horses as fast as possible. If we could just get the contractor off the job. These people need to be arrested. IMHO, mar

  11. Just a few corrections it wasnt 24 hours that they were separated, they are all still alive, and they were reunited with their mothers.
Not saying that anything is right about seperating them, just making sure we all know the facts and dont go too crazy with the information. It is important that we keep our heads level and our feet on the ground even with all the hellish pain and suffering. Its the only way we are going to win the fight. Keep at it, keep level headed, be professional, nomatter how discouraged one may feel, it has always been discouraged and tired people who kept on going, who have changed anything about this world.
    Thank you all.

  12. They are not branding at the roundup site, but they will be branding as soon as they ship them to the Palomino valley site. Babies are transported seperately. There are three holding pens, the trap site, the temporary holding and Litchfield corrals, they are possibly making more trap sites. When these three are full they are gona start shipping directly to Palomino valley, where they will get branded immediately and after a long trip as well. That is going to be bad.

  14. IMHO, moving from advocacy to activism will only hurt our cause and lead to more roundups and deaths of our wild ones. I’m putting my time and energy into what I hope will be a useful Herd Watch assignment. If you make the personal choice not to join Herd Watch, as is certainly your right, there are still plenty of things you can do.

I think we need to make a list of areas to investigate. Maybe make that list public and the investigations private. Then folks can privately commit to a topic, work alone or in pairs/groups, and keep the lines of communication open.

Remember, there is absolutely NO privacy on the Internet. Maybe we’ll have to go back to snail mail and support the USPS. Wouldn’t THAT be a hoot! Is intercepting other peoples’ mail still a felony?

There’s allot of passion on the blogs. What we need now is passion with a purpose. The only way to beat a gamer is with his or her own game.

    • Linda, I agree. Activism just gets us armed guards.

Remember the pen is mighier than the sword.

Just spread the truth as we know it. I stick with the Facts list from The Cloud Foundation when ever I am blogging with or talking to the public. Then they have to come on-line and find the rest.

I just hope then that people here will answer them kindly and coax them along to work on the issues – like Craig Downer says in his video “maybe the answer is in me, maybe it’s in you” – I add – maybe in someone we haven’t even met yet.

I sure don’t want to have people leave us or be turned away by their first visit for being too activist. I’m not making judgements – just saying any activism, by its very nature, should not be on the blogs at all – makes it harder for the advocates – I will leave any such site and not refer anyone to them.

      • Hmmm.. activist… it seems to me that all the wildlife and environmental groups I have been affilliated with over the years have considered themselves ‘activists’ for donating to funds, signing petitions, writing and calling the powers that be and ocassionally protesting and traveling to courts and meetings. Sound familiar? I am not sure this is a problem in the world or just the wild horse world. So I am an advocate doing the same thing an activist does for other species campaigns? This is rather narrow, isn’t it? Did anyone ask LisaL who she was describing as 2 activists’ at the observation with her??? Anyone privy? mar

If you are in the field and not at home are you an activist then?? Is the difference because some can go to see roundups and holding pens and others cannot? So those who show up at roundups are not considered advocates anymore by the opposition? They become activists??? I see no where to draw lines except where BLM has apparently drawn them. Are we drawing lines? mar

      • Nothing wrong with being an activist – that has over history been successful, especially if one has a clear mission and vision and clear understanding of all consequences – and not so successful at times. I for one am not inclined to be an activist for “undefined” actions. The wild horse movement has certainly engaged in many, many peaceful “activist” actions, but without claiming activism.

If it is the intent of SFTHH to cross that line from advocate to activist then I will wish you all well and much success. If SFTHH wishes to submit a mission and vision that is solidly non-violence activism that would for me be worth looking back into. I’ll check back in a month or so and see how things are going – best wishes and much success to changing the law, winning suits and saving the horses.

Wikipedia: “Activism consists of intentional action to bring about social, political, economic, or environmental change. This action is in support of, or opposition to, one side of an often controversial argument. In contemporary use, “activism” tends to be a word associated with the actions and ideologies of those on the political left.

The word “activism” is used synonymously with protest or DISSENT, but activism can take a wide range of forms from writing letters to newspapers or politicians, political campaigning, economic activism such as boycotts or preferentially patronizing businesses, rallies, street marches, strikes, both work stoppages and hunger strikes, or EVEN GURRILLA TACTICS.

In some cases, activism has nothing to do with protest or confrontation.[1] Some religious or vegetarian/vegan activists try to persuade people to change their behavior directly, rather than persuade governments to change laws. The cooperative movement seeks to build new institutions which conform to cooperative principles, and generally does not lobby or protest politically…”

“An advocate is someone who speaks on behalf of another person (OR HORSES WHO CANNOT SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES), … Implicit in the concept is the notion that the represented lacks the knowledge, skill, ability, or standing to speak for themselves…”

  15. There are only non violent people here. I have never engaged in any violent action in my life. Ever. Guerilla tactics have nothing to do with this campaign either or any people we associate with in this country. I have no association with any violent people. But BLM seems to slur the meanings and get people rather scared of their own shadows over the definition of what is here and now. This has always been a non-violent forum and RT has stated that many times. You know that, Rox. What gives? mar

      • Yes, mostly it is but somehow this has hit a nerve and there seem to be people who are worried about what word and definition they are associated with. Since no one is a proponent of violence at any time are we not still the same as we were a week ago in this campaign? If something changed what was it? If this is an off blog issue please tell me more. mar

    • I think many of us if not all are the same this week as last. We are frustrated as we see one “gather” after another and we do not see that we are stopping this soon enough. I would like to sneak up and open the gates on all the horses–would I? NO. Would I or most likely anyone else participate in violent actions NO. I would like to see huge wins that stop the horse gathers but I will not sink to a level that would make me not proud of myself. If anything I think of myself as an active advocate–I do not sit back and let these policies implemented silently. But I am also proud of myself and of the many fellow fighters on this and other blogs. These are the weapons we have carry into our battle–our love for the horses, our honor, our truthfulness and our integrity. There is no reason to leave, no one is going to riot in the deserts–it would do no good and it would scare the horses.

  16. Don’t let the BLM define activism as a bad thing. After all, our country sure got it’s start with activism and they would probably be labeled terrorists today! We all advocate for the wild ones here and when we are “face to face” with BLM/DOI we become activists. They were the ones with guns that stood on the top steps of the DOI in Washington DC and told us not to come up the steps. We were only armed with our “right to assemble”. The same goes for the “activists” who witness the roundups. The guards have the guns—we do not.
