Wild horse advocates are holding a rally this Friday, Feb. 20, at the McDougall Centre, 455 6th St. SW, Calgary at 1 p.m. to protect the Ghost River wild horses that will be culled by the Alberta government.
The group says the Ghost River Equine Zone is home to an uncertain number of wild horses and the government intends to have 50 to 60 horses removed by Feb. 28.
Following a number of flyovers, the group claims the numbers provided by the government are incorrect.
“Due to a complete lack of transparency and accountability on their part, we took to the air again this year to check out the horse numbers in the cull area for ourselves, said Darrell Glover, of Olds, AB. “After culling 218 horses from the Ghost in 2012, who can possibly justify removing any more horses from the year? If they take the very few that are left from the South Ghost, they will never recover.”
They are inviting people to attend the rally.

Note from Debbie – here is where you can write to tell the Alberta government that you won’t be spending your tourism dollars there because they are removing the wildies:

It looks like they went to same school of arithmetic that it BLM did…..the school of can’t count if it’s over the number of fingers in both hands and an 11 month gestation ensures that they don’t multiply like rabbits…Duh.. Best wishes to the advocates on their rally. Best wishes for the horses.

I noticed this sentence in particular, “Following a number of flyovers, the group claims the numbers provided by the government are incorrect.” This is exactly the same here – exactly.
Best of luck to those that appreciate wild horses in Canada and especially the wild horses themselves.

Another BLM agency but in another country. May all the advocates win this one and these horses get saved from this horrible agency. All the horse lovers in both countries should demand justice for these animals and DEMAND these agencies are dismantled, and a more protective agency replaces them that is overseen by US, THE HORSE AND BURRO LOVERS. God Bless All who will be attending this function.

Carole King is a well known US singer/songwriter. She endorses protecting the US wild/feral horse population. Jann Arden, a Canadian singer/songwriter from Alberta also endorses protecting the wild/feral horses in Alberta. She was featured in the Calgary Sun newspaper a year ago. People made mean comments about her and did not stick to the subject. I support saving the horses.

I hope these horses can be saved. They are not causing any problems. Industrial activity is doing more damage.

ESRD are hiding something. They should be ashamed! Come on Alberta put in Calls to Kyle Fawcett, Minister of Sustainable to let them know how you feel about our Wild Alberta horses. They belong here. Perhaps more than ‘Sustainable’ does!
